Norfolk State University has been named the Tom Joyner Foundation ‘School of the Month’ for September.

The university, located in Norfolk, Va., has 6,728 students, offering more than 50 degree programs at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels. On its 134-acre campus, there are 35 buildings, including state-of-the-art technology centers, a 28,000-seat football stadium and an 8,000-seat basketball arena. The university was founded in 1935 as the Norfolk Unit of Virginia Union University. In 1979, Norfolk State College became designated as a university enabled to grant graduate degrees. Norfolk State University has a goal of raising $300,000 in support of NSU scholarships for its students.

As one of the Tom Joyner Foundation ‘Schools of the Month’, each school will be promoted by the Tom Joyner Morning Show and receive those funds raised from listeners, alumni and other interested parties that month. The show, aired in 115 markets around the country, reaches nearly eight million listeners every week.
