Michael Strahan has come to the aid of his alma mater Texas Southern University big time.

The retired NFL star announced Tuesday morning on ABC’s “Live with Kelly and Michael!” that he will donate $100,000 to help the “Ocean of Soul” marching band get to Canton, Ohio in August, where Strahan will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The band is trying to get there to play for his induction. Earlier this month, comedian Kevin Hart pledged to donate $50,000 to the band.

“We have a special edge. We bring things out to light that other bands cannot bring,” drum major Darius Harris said.

Eva Pickens, TSU’s Associate Vice President, who is leading the initiative, said the band’s goal was to raise $150,000 in 30 days.

“If we surpass our goal, monies will be used for scholarships to band students,” Pickens said in a release.

In southwest Houston, Strahan’s high school, Westbury, also will perform in Ohio. This band raised money with bake sales and car washes, while the school district covered most of their expenses.
