Rapper/actor Ludacris has been added to the judging panel of ABC upcoming singing competition series “Rising Star.”
He joins country singer Brad Paisley and pop star Kesha on the show’s “panel of experts.” Singer Josh Groban will serve as host. The four are scheduled to appear together Sunday at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards on ABC, which Ludacris is hosting.
Premiering on June 22, “Rising Star” is based on a show that has been a sensation in Israel. The live talent show incorporates real-time voting by viewers via an app. Contestants are separated from the studio audience and the judges by a translucent floor-to-ceiling LED screen where images of voters at home appear live, and the singer can see how the vote tally is growing during the performance. The screen goes up and the performer sees the experts (and the audience) only if they reach a voting threshold.
Former “American Idol” executive producer Ken Warwick and Nicolle Yaron (“The Voice”) serve as executive producers of “Rising Star,” which is yet to announce the modifications to the original format needed to accommodate the U.S.’ three time zones.
