Dear Tom,

Everyone describes my mother as the sweetest person they have ever met and I wholeheartedly agree, but not just because she’s my mother and I’m biased.   She truly is always giving of herself for her children, grandchild, family, friends and church.

Tom, both my mother and father worked for the same textile factory in the small town of Abbeville, Alabama for over thirty years.   The company closed its doors several years ago, causing my parents to lose their incomes and most of their retirement savings.  They have struggled financially ever since.   So now, instead of getting ready for a comfortable retirement, my parents who are 58 and 62 are still working hard to make ends meet.

Right now, my mother is home recovering from her second knee replacement surgery and waiting to return to her job at an assisted living facility.  What she wants more than anything is to be able to finish the kitchen makeover she started, but has not been able to finish for lack of finances.   She has managed to replace her broken stove and put in new bottom cabinets.  However, she can’t afford the top cabinets and the backsplash tile behind the stove.  It is my Christmas wish to ask you to make my mother happy and put a huge smile on her face by making her kitchen functional and beautiful.
