Spike Lee’s classic Black college film School Daze turned 25 in 2013. Given that anniversary, many fans wonder if there’s a chance Lee might release a sequel to the classic film. In the past there has been talk, but no confirmation of a follow up until now.
Spike Lee spoke with Black&Sexy TV and confirmed that a script has been completed.
“I had the script for ‘School Daze,’” said Lee. “But, what people have to understand is that it’s a contemporary version. So it’s the same school, Mission College, 25 years later,” explains Lee. “Hopefully I can get Laurence Fishburne to play Dap. He’ll be the president now of the school. And we would deal with issues around Historically Black Colleges today.”
Lee said the movie will delve into many of the same issues that students faced in the late ‘80s, while taking on new subjects such as the pledging process and homophobia at historically black colleges.

WILL THERE BE ANY NEW GENERATION OF GAMMA RAYS, GAMMITES AND THE NEW BIG BROTHERS OF GAMMA PHI GAMMA AND WILL HALF PINT BE DEAN BIG BROTHER HALF PINT. PLUS WILL JANE TOUSSAINT BE PART OF THIS SEQUEL, WHERE IS THIS FILMING LOCATED?
This movie (the original version) is what made me want to attend college. I was initially considering the military right after high school. Once there, I saw how the GREEKS were running things (Ques & Kappas on my yard in particular, but all of D9 in general). The Nasty Q-Dogs, those ultra-SMOOTH NUPES, Ice Cold Alphas, etc. Along with those classy AKA’s, Delta divas, etc. They all had their own niche, but were basically a blended unit (NPHC) on campus. I’m sure this movie will bring back lots of pleasant memories. Bring it on Spike!!!
When and where will the auditions be held
MAN! Thats what I’m concerned with. Audition info, i would be perfect for this.
I am grateful to have grown up watching Spike’s films from Joe’s Barber Shop to present. School Daze came as I was in college, so the sequel will be something I look forward to seeing.
Can’t wait to see the sequel. I’m sure Spike will keep the same flavor of the original in the sequel but like he said… making it focus on today’s issues that touch our HBCU campuses.
Excited to see this!!!
