Keyshawn Johnson will not follow in the footsteps of Emmitt Smith or Hines Ward, former NFL players who took home Mirrorball Trophies on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
The one-time wide receiver would receive only bad news last night as the first contestant to be voted out of the competition.
Johnson and his partner Sharna Burgess were in the bottom two this week with comedian Bill Engvall and Emma Slater.
“For a guy that’s never even bobbed his head in the car, the fact that I could have the experience of dance… is something amazing to me,” Johnson said in parting. “I don’t really care at this point about whether we win or lose. It’s just the fact that I had the opportunity to learn from her. I think she’s an amazing choreographer and her time will come. I wish I could have done more to help her out.”
Meanwhile, “Glee” star Amber Riley and Derek Hough, the leaders from last week, did a jive that Goodman called “terrific,” but they were criticized for “flat footwork,” resulting in a score of 24.
Actress Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani impressed some of the judges with their samba. And it sounds like Remini has even more of a reason to strive for the Mirrorball Trophy.
“I’m going through a personal big change for me and my family,” she told Dovolani in a rehearsal segment. “The church (Scientology) is looking for me to fail so they can say to their parishioners, see what happens when you leave.”
“DWTS” returns next Monday on ABC.
