Hundreds of “Justice for Trayvon” rallies were held across the country on Saturday, July 20, 2013 in a move to encourage the Department of Justice to file charges against George Zimmerman for violating the civil rights of the late Trayvon Martin.
Beyoncé and Jay Z attended the NYC rally that was hosted by Reverend Al Sharpton and where Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the slain teen, was a special guest.
Sharpton remarked on their appearance, telling the crowd, “Jay Z and Beyoncé said they didn’t want to speak and they didn’t come for a photo op…”
Adding, that Jay Z told him, “I’m a father. Beyoncé is a mother.’ We all feel the pain and apprehension — the laws must protect everybody, or it doesn’t protect anybody. We do not come from hate, we come from love of children.”
