Whether you’re single and looking or happily in a relationship with the man of your dreams, we all could learn a thing or two from hip-hop’s favorite couple: Jay-Z and Beyonce. The duo managed to become a power couple, killing the game and everything they touch. While they live a highly publicized life, they’ve managed to keep their relationship strong, making every girl long for her own personal “Jay” and every guy looking for a “Queen Bey.” Jay-Z and Beyonce have taught us a lot about love and how to keep that flame strong even after the show’s over and the cameras turn off.

 Keep Your Relationship Private

Bey and Jay manage to keep their relationship and the details of it private from everyone! This is probably the most important rule of them all. In fact, no one knew for sure if they were even dating or not until they were already years into their relationship! They’ve stayed away from the drama that many celebrity romances have encountered and keep the media gossip and rumors to a bare minimum, so much so that when you hear a negative rumor about the twosome you automatically believe it’s not true. All we know about Jay and Bey’s relationship is that they’re happily married and have a beautiful daughter, and quite frankly, that’s all we should know!

If you and your boo have the same group of friends, it’s probably best to keep the details about your relationship under wraps. The more people who know about your relationship, the better chances they have to change your view point about certain situations that you and your partner go through causing you to have a tainted outlook on YOUR relationship. Let’s remember, you can’t trust everyone! Telling your group of friends your relationship details opens the gate for rumors, fights and twisted versions of stories. Take a lesson from Bey and Jay, keep it private!

The Couple That Grinds Together, Shines Together

Okay, I hate that phrase too, however it applies perfectly to the Carters. There’s no denying that Beyonce and Jay Z are both at the top of their game. Beyonce is currently embarking on her world tour, The Mrs. Carter Tour, while Jay Z just released yet another album, Magna Carter Holy Grail, and is currently on tour with Justin Timberlake. That’s not to mention the countless endorsement deals, business deals and number one singles that Beyonce and Jay have acquired separately and together (i.e. “Bonnie & Clyde”, “Upgrade U”, “Crazy In Love” etc.). Let’s face it, whatever Beyonce and Jay touches turns to gold!

Both Bey and Jay set career goals for themselves and didn’t let their relationship keep them away from achieving their goals. In fact, it seems as if  the success of their partner motivates them to do better! They don’t let each other stop one another from working toward their goals and they publicly support and encourage each other. Having a partner who works as hard if not harder than you will motivate you to do better and in turn you can motivate your partner to strive for the best as well.

Friendship First

Building a strong foundation in a relationship is extremely important!  Most relationships start from a great friendship or end because of a lack of one. It’s obvious that Beyonce and Jay Z are not only lovers, but also the best of friends! Remember Beyonce’s HBO Documentary when they were singing Coldplay’s “Yellow” together?

Or Beyonce’s OWN interview where she opened up to Oprah about her and Jay’s friendship saying:

We were friends first, for a year and a half, before we went on any date . . . on the phone for a year and a half. And that foundation is so important in a relationship. And just to have someone that you just like, you know, is so important. And someone that is honest.

There you have it, straight from the Queen’s mouth! Don’t rush! Build a strong friendship first and you and your boo will have a strong relationship right from the start!

He’s Got A Big Ego – And She Knows How To Support Him

Dating a powerful man (and woman) can be extremely fun but also a little stressful, especially if you’re quite the powerhouse yourself. One thing that both Beyonce and Jay Z do is support each other. Showing support for your partner during both the good and bad times is key in order to have a successful, happy and healthy relationship.  It’s quite obvious that Beyonce is Jay’s number one fan, as she poses holding up the ROC symbol in many of her pictures and is by his side at all of his concerts and events.

On the flip side, Jay is Beyonce’s number one fan also, as you can tell by the multiple shout outs he gives her in his rap songs and his support for her at all of her shows. Remember when Jay surprised Beyonce on the French talk show LeGrand Journal and made her forget her name?

By supporting your partner, you’re showing him that you’ve got his back, are proud of his accomplishments and are proud to be his woman. Let’s face it, who doesn’t like to be bragged on every now and then?

Keep It Off Of Social Media  

Facebook, Instagram and Twitter posts about your significant other are cute every now and then but when it becomes social media overload, you leave people to question why you’re trying to push your “happiness” in everyone’s face? Are you really THAT happy? Beyonce and Jay Z hardly ever post pictures of each other on their social media accounts so when they finally do, it’s special and shows how much they really love and care about each other (and leaves us feelings all warm and fuzzy inside). Nothing is more annoying than going to your Instagram feed and seeing your friend post 10 pictures of her and her boo within the past hour. Keep it simple, please, for all of our sakes!
