Dear TJMS crew,
My name is Gary Campbell and I live in Gastonia, North Carolina with my very pregnant wife of five years. She is due to give birth to our first child— a daughter— the early part of May. I earn my living as a truck driver working about ten to thirteen hours a day and I’m the sole provider for my family.
Tom, since childhood, I have suffered from chronic ear infections that left me with permanent hearing loss as an adult. My left ear has the most damage and now i need a hearing aid. I’ve tried through my insurance to cover the expense, but it doesn’t meet my $5000 deductible. I have been to the audiologist and a mold has been made of my ear for the hearing aid, but the $2,100 out of pocket cost is more than i can afford. She did give me a loaner to get by.
My hearing loss has put a big strain on my wife having to repeat whatever she says over and over again and there have been misunderstandings of important things that I just missed. I also worry, because my audiologist stated that hearing loss is one cause of Alzheimer’s disease. Now, I have concerns that i won’t be able to hear my baby girl cry when she needs me.
Please tom, help give me a Christmas wish of hearing better.
Thank you and God bless,
Gary Campbell
