Crooner Avant has been behind several R&B hits from ballads like “When It Hurts,” duets with Keke Wyatt like “Separated” and “My First Love” and sexy anthems like “Makin’ Good Love” and “Break Your Back.”  This month, he releases his seventh studio CD, “Face the Music” on indie Mo-B Entertainment, distributed through Capitol. His first single “You and I” reunites him with his favorite duet partner, Wyatt, now one of the stars of “R&B Divas” on TV One.

“With her it’s seamless,” Avant told“It’s a whole different spirit when she’s in the studio. We have a chemistry and bond that can’t be broken. I’ve worked with a lot of different female artists and she’s the easiest to work with. When we did “My First Love” she was only 16, and never heard the original song, but she sang it like a champ. From that point on I knew there was something special about her. I’ll put her up against any female in the game, and I mean that.”

Though R&B has been diminished in its influence since Avant began his career and many “old-school” R&B acts have been cast aside for newcomers like Miguel, Frank Ocean and The Weeknd, Avant stays in his lane for “Face the Music.”

“It’s a taste of new school and old school,” explains Avant. “You might hear a piece of, say, Stevie Wonder or Babyface, then I spin right back around and offer up some new age R&B.  It’s a well-rounded album with something for everyone. At the end of the day, “Face the Music” is about who we are and what we live by; it’s about respecting that as well as the music.”
