Terrence Howard will join Viola Davis in Alcon Entertainment’s cast of “Prisoners,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The story follows a small-town carpenter (Hugh Jackman) whose young daughter and her best friend are abducted. After the cops fail to find them, Keller takes the law into his own hands, but in the process runs up against a detective (Jake Gyllenhaal), a hot-shot cop with confidence to burn, assigned to the case.

Melissa Leo, Maria Bello and Paul Dano round out the cast.

Principal photography starts in February. Alcon is targeting a fall 2013 release through its output deal with Warner Bros.

Howard was most recently seen in “Red Tails,” “The Company You Keep” and the upcoming “On the Road.”
