Desharee Williams is one lucky young woman, but she worked hard to be. As one of the recipients of the Quotes for Education scholarships, the Bethune-Cookman senior is more than ready to take on the world outside her college campus.

Quotes for Education is the joint scholarship program between Tom Joyner and Allstate Insurance which grants scholarships to students at HBCU’s. Williams is actively involved in the Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), an international organization that encourages students to partner with business leaders to form entrepreneurial endeavors in service to others.

“I hope to pass on the torch to those behind me…,” Williams told Examiner.com. “I want to make sure that I can really focus on giving back and teaching others about financial responsibility so that when I leave, we can continue to uphold the activities and service that we can provide on campus.”

Williams says that her scholarship helped her excel by allowing her to be worry-free during her college years and that she’s particularly glad that the scholarship is awarded to students attending historically black colleges and universities.

“Quotes for Education took care of my financial responsibilities. I’m really glad that they are actually looking into HBCUs to provide the finances because we have a lot of great students here that really turn into great and successful citizens,” she said.

This year, Allstate and the Tom Joyner Foundation will donate $10 to the scholarship fund up to $150,000 for every person who asks for an insurance quote from an Allstate agent and mentions Quotes for Education up until Dec. 31, 2012.

For the first time this year, anyone can cast a vote to decide which HBCU member school will receive an additional $50,000 for a scholarship specifically at that school.
