St. Louis born comedian Gary “G Thang” Johnson has already made his hometown proud appearing in movies like “Moneyball,” “Player’s Ball” and “Disaster Movie” and touring around the country on the standup stage. But now he’s inspiring them to be healthier as well, by dropping 72 pounds in the last two years.

“I’m trying to get my Boris Kodjoe on, my Morris Chestnut on, all the cats that were sexy on TV, I’m trying to do that,” he told Humormillmag.com. “I got in the gym; I stopped eating Roscoe’s (Chicken and Waffles restaurant in L.A.). Sorry about that, Roscoe’s. I gave up all the #9’s – I don’t even go by Roscoe’s.  I gave up McDonald’s, gave up soda, gave up pretty much everything.”

The once-portly comedian may have dropped some pounds but he’s still full of jokes. He’ll be the comic relief on this summer’s Fresh Music Festival, starring Doug E. Fresh, Keith Sweat, Guy, SWV and K-Ci and Jo Jo. The tour started last month and is winding its way around the country, adding dates all the time.
