Three employees at a Stop & Shop store in Brooklyn, NY tackled and sat on top of a shoplifter until he died.

According to the NY Post, Ralph Nimmons, 51, was caught shoplifting on April 14. Witnesses say he was stealing items and storing them in a cake box.

When employees were notified, shoppers stared in shock as the three employees, a manager, assistant manager and worker wrestled Nimmons to the ground.

“The store manager was on his head part,” said Clintisha Lewis a shopper. “A female, [the assistant manager], was on his belly part and a worker was on his legs. Those are three adults sitting on him.”

As they sat on top of Nimmons, he could be heard telling the employees that he had a bad heart but it didn’t stop employees. When authorities arrived on the scene, Nimmons was unconscious.

An ambulance rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. A medical examiner has been called in to determine the cause of his death. Employees from the store refused to comment.
