DMX can be looking at 5 years behind bars in an upcoming sentencing on Wednesday, March 28.
Page Six reports that New York prosecutors are urging the judge to throw the keys away on the rapper for not paying $1.7 million in taxes.
Court papers state that prosecutors want the judge to, “use this sentencing to send the message to this defendant and others that star power does not entitle someone to a free pass, and individuals cannot shirk the duty to pay their fair share of taxes.”
DMX’s lawyer Murray Richman thinks otherwise of the sentence saying his client should be put on probation with drug treatment so that he can pay off his debt.
His lawyer adding, “They wish to make an example of him just before tax season just as they always do.” He continued, “Take a man who comes from the ghetto and expect him to understand the implications of doing taxes when he’s an entertainer.”
Previously out on bail, DMX was taken back to jail when he failed his drug test.
