Teddy Pendergrass‘ widow is accusing his children of causing her a great deal of humiliation and grief over the late singer’s will … and now she is suing them for damages caused by emotional distress.

Teddy passed away due to respiratory failure in 2010. According to his will, he left his entire estate to wifey Joan Pendergrass. However, his son Theodore tried to have the will invalidated by forging a will that stated the estate all went to him. The court eventually ruled the will presented by Theodore was a fabrication, per The Blast.

Joan is now suing Teddy’s son, Theodore Pendergrass II, and his daughters, La Donna Hollerway and Tishia Burnett.

“The illusion and fantasy created by Theodore, Jr. and propagated by his lawyers,” the lawsuit says, “forced Mrs. Pendergrass to undergo years of turmoil and anguish as her relationship with her late husband was unmercifully scrutinized.”

Teddy’s career was at its peak in 1982 when he broke his neck in a car accident. He was paralyzed from the chest down. In the wake of the accident, questions emerged about the mystery woman who was riding in the car with him. She was revealed to be Tenika Watson, a transgender nightclub performer.

“Teddy accepted who he was, what had happened. And he was determined to make the best of it and make a difference,” Joan told 6abc.com last month.

Joan says the 6-year legal battle with Teddy’s kids cost $850,000 in attorney fees. As a result, she says she has suffered humiliation, diminished reputation, emotional distress and anxiety.

She is suing Theodore, La Donna, Tishia and each lawyer who represented them throughout the numerous court appearances. The suit is seeking general and punitive damages
