Ever since talk for another actor to play the iconic role of James Bond, all of social media has crowned British actor Idris Elba to be the one. Although it hasn’t happened yet, Alba has an entirely different idea in mind.

The Grio reports that Alba wouldn’t mind seeing a Black woman play the role of James Bond. During an interview with Variety where they asked if he’d want the role, he deflected answering by saying the franchise should go in a different direction.

“Are we interested in having a bond character other than being a male,” he asked. “Could be a woman, could be a Black woman, coud be a white woman, but I think, that character, everybody would like to see it have do something different with it, why not?”

Elba had this interview while attending the Sundance Film Festival in which he made his directorial début for his feature-length film Yardie. The film is an adaptation of the 1992 book.

When asked about his film, he told Deadline that, “the opportunity came, I read the script and realized that everything that was in the script could certainly amplify with some truth.”

“I was there in that time period. I know the people the was about,” expressed Elba. “I’ve met these people and been in the areas. So I felt like this was something that wasn’t going to be too much of a departure from who I am.”

Looks like there’s a lot of room for a potential Bond played by a Black woman, at least according to Elba. Not going to lie, it would be nice seeing him as the new Bond.
