Atlanta police officers found the body of a man in a shopping mall parking lot.

Police believe that this was not a random act but that the man was targeted.

According to police, 27-year-old Sergio Collins was murdered by someone he was with the week he was killed.

Lori Wilson, a friend of Collins, told WSB-TV Atlanta news that he was turning his life around.

“He was raised in and out of group homes, the foster care system, family members and he was basically kind of the victim of the socialization of his environment,” explained Shalise Steele-Young told Wilson.

Steele-Young is familiar with the Collins and his family as she runs a nonprofit organization that helps homeless people.

Collins was reported missing on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. That Friday, officers found his body in the parking lot of a shopping mall.

His body was slumped over in the driver’s seat of his car. Officers broke the windows of his car to get to him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“I remember Sergio always laughing, and joking, and playing and being a good father to his child,” explained the sister Warrell Collins.

“As soon as we received that missing person’s report, there was an indication that there may have been violence involved,” explained Capt. Reginald Moorman of the Atlanta Police Department.

Authorities strongly believe that Collins’ was killed by someone he knew and are continuing to investigate the matter.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Collins’ and to help his fiancé with expenses.
