The BET show Being Mary Jane will come to an end in 2018. The show will close with a two-hour series finale movie that will be aired on BET.

Being Mary Jane has been on the air for four seasons starring Gabrielle Union as a top journalist with a hard to live personal life that always seemed to conflict with work. The fourth season ended on September 19, 2017.

A day after the announcement of the show’s end on October 11, 2017, Union took to social media sharing her heartfelt emotions with fans and thanking them for the journey.

“Mary Jane has become my favorite character,” wrote Union. “We’ve screwed up together, laughed together, evolved together, and raised hell together.”

For many, Mary Jane was a symbol of strength and hope so hearing that show was ending didn’t go over well with them. Fans expressed their sadness with comments like, “I’m really going to miss this show. I saw myself in Mary Jane and it gave me hope…,” or, “It was so amazing seeing a powerful, unapologetic, multi-faceted, no bullshit, flawed Black woman on television. You brought so much complexity to your role and taught me so much as an actress and woman. ✊🏾”

But Union wanted her fans to know just how thankful she was for them. “More than anything, however, we want to thank you with every fiber of our being for faithfully watching the show and supporting our work,” she wrote. She continued, “…from the actors, writers, producers, directors and enormous crew over the years, we are humbled and we remain grateful. Thank you!”
