In rapper Common’s eyes, Jerry Jones is showing a “slave owner mentality” by stating he’ll bench any player that doesn’t stand during the National Anthem.

TMZ caught up with Glory rapper as he was entering his car. Common points out the people should pay close attention to the lyrics that Francis Scott Key wrote in the National Anthem. Specifically calling attention to the parts that talk about slavery.

“My thing is the principles of the country that you’re standing up for you really are opposing that saying this is what you need to do…It’s an owner mentality, like a slave owner mentality, to be honest. Like, ‘You gonna do what I say on this,” explained Common.

But then he really broke it down when he began to say, “other people choosing to put their hand over their heart. What makes that gesture better than somebody else who might be praying during the National Anthem?” He continued, “Or if somebody says, ‘I;m kneeling for what I believe in, ‘…then they should be able to do that because that’s what this country is all about.”
