At Lithia Springs High School in Georgia, a teacher shot himself Thursday morning, according to authorities.

Douglas County School officials say that around 7:15 a.m., the teacher shot himself in an empty classroom. There were no students or staff members present during the shooting.

After shooting himself, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office stated that the teacher managed to get the attention of an employee who immediately called 911. The teacher was flown from the high school to a local hospital, where he has been in stable condition since 11:20 a.m.

Fox  5 Atlanta reported school resource officers secured the building immediately after the shooting. Students that were in the school at the time were moved to the gymnasium so that they could be with their parents.
