Why is a professional dancer being allowed to compete on the upcoming season of “Dancing With the Stars?”

This has been the burning question since the celebrity and dancer pairings were announced today (March 1) on “Good Morning America.” Among the stars revealed was “Glee” alum Heather Morris, who was once a “So You Think You Can Dance” hopeful and in 2007 toured with Beyonce as one of the her background dancers.

She even appeared behind Bey during her 2008 performances of “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” on “Saturday Night Live” and the “American Music Awards.”

Is this fair?

Morris’ answer mirrors what past “DWTS” cast members with dance backgrounds have said to justify their participation: “I’ve taken like one ballroom lesson in my life.”

Other current cast members with choreography as part of their profession include 2016 Olympic gold medal gymnast Simone Biles, figure skating icon Nancy Kerrigan and Fifth Harmony singer Normani Kordei.

Rounding out the Season 24 hopefuls is NFL free agent Rashad Jennings, flamenco guitarist Charo, comedian Chris Kattan, MLB retiree David Ross and Mr. T— as well as “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” breakout star Erika Jayne and bull rider model Bonner Bolton.

Also, current “Bachelor” Nick Viall will be paired with Peta Murgatroyd.

“Dancing With the Stars” premieres Monday, March 20, after Viall’s season of “The Bachelor” comes to an end.
