LEICESTER, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina woman who bought a scratch-off ticket to show her husband that lottery tickets are a waste of money has won $1 million.

Glenda Blackwell of Leicester tells WLOS-TV that her husband asked her to buy two Powerball tickets from a Quik Mart last Saturday, but she bought a $10 Carolina Millions scratch-off ticket instead.

Blackwell said she was trying to show her husband that no one ever wins and buying tickets is a waste of money.

Now she’s eating her words — and enjoying every bite.

The 57-year-old Blackwell says she’s going to use the $415,500 lump sum after taxes to buy a home and pay for her granddaughters’ college.

  1. No one every wins? Now she knows. And people win the lottery EVERYDAY somewhere. I can not stand people like this. We had a woman here to vote against the lottery and two years later, she won 2 million. There was a woman in California (black woman) whose daughter did not want her to play the lottery because she thought her mother was wasting her money. The mother won 91 million. So this goes to show, if you want to play the lottery, play it and if anyone tells you to stop or you are wasting your time, tell them to go to @#$%. I wonder if THIS woman is going to give ALL the money since it is a waste of time, to her husband? Goes to show that people are full of it.
