Tessa Thompson is widely known for her roles in Selma, Dear White People, For Colored Girls and Veronica Mars (her first acting job). But it’s her role as Bianca in Creed, that shows a different side of the Hollywood starlet. Creed tells the story of Adonis Johnson, the son of Rocky Balboa’s late friend and former rival Apollo Creed’s journey to the boxing ring.

She talks to the Tom Joyner Morning Show about the film, working with Michael B. Jordan, wearing the actor’s shorts and if there’s a possible sequel in the works.

“My initial thought upon hearing about the movie in general, I wanted to be involved. I was kind of sold before reading the script. He (Ryan Coogler) was able to borrow from the role of Rocky and create something fresh and new. My character Bianca is sort of a female counterpart that you haven’t seen in this type of movie before…I love that she was just a frilly girl,” Thompson said.

Similarities between Rocky and Adriana and Creed and Bianca:

“There were some parallels in a sense that we were interested in telling a love story of two people were an unlikely duo at first. We wanted to tell that honestly and I think you see that in the first Rocky. They come together in a sweet, kind of stumbling way.”
