After becoming a trending topic on Twitter, Anthony Mackie says his supposed endorsement of Donald Trump was just a ‘bad joke.’

In an interview with BET, Mackie was asked whose presidential campaign he would want to run (he’s out promoting his political drama Our Brand is Crisis), and he picked The Apprentice star. (He has since been replaced by Arnold Schwarzenegger after his comments on immigration.

Mackie believes that the Donald would be an “easy sell” because he “worked his way up from nothing.”

“I would 100 percent want to run Trump’s campaign. 100 percent,” he said. “I mean, first that’ll be the best party ever when he won, and second, Trump’s an easy sell… When you look at Trump, he’s an easy sell because you can sell him as the guy who worked his way up from nothing. And I think if you’re a ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ candidate, people would identify with that.”

The only hole in Mackie’s understanding of Trump’s background is that he didn’t work his way up from nothing. Trump’s father, Fred, was a real-estate mogul who built affordable-housing complexes all over New York City.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, Mackie…

Mackie appears to have ‘re-thought his comments posting this response to the controversy.
