CLEVELAND (AP) — Transit Authority police say an officer used pepper spray on a crowd trying to prevent them from taking an intoxicated teenager to police headquarters.

WKYC-TV says the incident happened Sunday as a “Black Lives Matter” conference was ending.

Conference participant Destinee Henton says people formed a barricade around a police cruiser and began chanting. She says one officer began pepper spraying people.

In a statement, the Rapid Transit Authority says officers “peacefully removed” an intoxicated 14-year-old from a bus and took him to a bus shelter. A crowd began gathering and the teen was placed in a cruiser. Transit officials say an officer used pepper spray when the crowds wouldn’t allow the police car to leave.

The boy later was released to his mother. There weren’t any arrests.
