The only thing we know for sure about Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s marriage is that its one of Hollywood’s longest lasting contemporary relationships. The Smiths have been married since 1997, making them one of the few Black couples in Hollywood to have last almost two decades.

Over the years, there has been much speculation about each partner’s sexual preferences as well as the openness or lack thereof of their relationship. Smith says that what some people consider an “open” relationship, is simply one marked with a high level of trust.

She stopped by The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM recently on promo tour for Magic Mike XXL, opening in July, and talked about the couple’s approach to marriage. Although she married Will when she was in her 20’s she says she doesn’t recommend it for everyone.

E! Online reports:

“Heck yeah, don’t do it,” she advised when she stopped by The Howard Stern Showon SiriusXM. “Thank God I have a husband who is just a gangster partner because can you imagine taking that road together from 25 to 44? Woo!”

The Gotham actress, who has been very honest in the past about her “open” marriage to Smith, also clarified what she meant by her famous comments that indicated she and Smith were free to date whomever. Host Howard Stern, however, noted that neither one seems to act on it.

“You gotta trust who you’re with, and at the end of the day, I’m not here to be anybody’s watcher,” Pinkett Smith explained. “I’m not his watcher. He’s a grown man.”

Listen to the entire interview below. Jada also talks about looking too sexy around her son’s friends and how the Smiths keep their relationship sexy, as well as how she feels when she knows Will is attracted to other people.

At the end of the day, you either have a cheater for a partner or you don’t. Do you agree with Jada’s approach to relationships? It seems to be working out for her and Will Smith. Could your relationship work that way?
