Wow! Imagine someone asking you who your dad is. And imagine you’re black and you say, Oscar de la Renta!
Now, imagine being laughed right out of town.
But then imagine getting the last laugh, because its true!
At least it is for 30-year-old Moises de la Renta, who the iconic designer adopted from an orphanage in their native Dominican Republic (Yes, O.d.l.R was born in the Dominican Republic) when the baby was only 24-hours old. The adoption took place following the death of de la Renta’s first wife, Françoise, who died of cancer.
But while everything may look all lovey-dovey between father and son in the photo above, as it turns out, Moises made daddy (who passed away last October at the age of 82) mad and now he may not be getting “anything to write home about” from his dad’s $26 million dollar estate.
And check this: According to the New York Post’s Page Six, court documents show that Moisés was warned if he contests the will at all, he will be cut off completely.
So why all the ill-will in the parent-son department?
Competition. Can you believe it?
I mean, he’s Oscar de la Renta for god’s sake!
But here’s what supposedly went down.
In 2005, the younger de la Renta decided he wanted to start a women’s clothing line.
Dad was like, “Uh uh.”
And apparently went to his grave never forgiving his son.
The line never went anywhere.
So what does a millionaire dad do to show that son how hurt he was?
He leaves him only a small amount of his massive estate.
According to court documents filed in Litchfield County Probate Court in Connecticut, his widow, Annette de la Renta, who he has been married to for 25-years, is set to inherit all of the designer’s belongings. She will also get a $13 million Park Avenue apartment, a $2.8 million Connecticut home, and their estate in the Dominican Republic.
Annette was put in control of the funds, and Oscar’s stepdaughter Eliza Bolen was named as an alternate executor of the will, according to Page Six.
Daddy de la Renta made it no secret he did not forgive his son, and spoke publicly about it on occasion.
“Moisés did a little line, five or six pieces. But that doesn’t make him a designer,” Oscar told New York magazine at the time.
