In news that will surely tug at your heart strings, a Missouri woman who is an accomplished gospel singer met her daughter for the first time on Thursday, 50 years after she was told her baby died hours after birth, reports WGNTV.

The news station reports:

Nearly 50 years ago, shortly after giving birth at the old Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, Zella Price was told her baby died. However, the baby was alive and was adopted by a family.

Zella Jackson Price, now 76, met her daughter, Melanie Diane Gilmore, for the first time at Price’s home on Thursday.

Zella Price said she is hurt by the years of separation but is thankful for this second chance.

Gilmore, who is deaf due to a childhood illness, found her mother because her tech-savvy children searched the internet until they found Price, reports WGNTV.

DNA testing confirmed Price is Gilmore’s mother, and Fox-2 St. Louis confirms that Gilmore’s father died some years ago.

The station also reports that there will be an investigation into what happened so many years ago in the hospital.
