Washington D.C. police are on the hunt for a man who allegedly stabbed five people on Saturday night at a popular bar on Pennsylvania Avenue—just eight blocks from the White House, according to The Washington Post.

The incident took place just after 12:30 am at McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon, a popular college watering hole known for loud music and huge crowds.  The victims, who have been friends since childhood, were at the Foggy Bottom hot spot for a birthday celebration.  Police are still trying to piece together a motive and exactly what took place.

The five have not been identified and all were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of stab wounds.  One of the victims was stabbed in the kidneys but all are expected to make full recoveries.

Police investigators report that no arrests have been made thus far and there is an alert identifying a black man, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches tall. At the time of the incident, he was sporting a trench coat, plaid shirt and blue or black jeans.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier has temporarily shut down McFadden’s after the bloody melee.
