LOS ANGELES — Meshach Taylor‘s agent says the actor who appeared in the hit sitcoms “Designing Women” and “Dave’s World” has died. He was 67.

Agent Dede Binder says Taylor died of cancer on Saturday at his home in Los Angeles.

Taylor’s mother, Hertha Taylor who celebrated her 100th birthday on June 17, was reportedly by her son’s side when he passed along with his wife,children and grandchildren.

Taylor got an Emmy nod for his portrayal of a lovable ex-convict surrounded by boisterous Southern belles on “Designing Women” from 1986 to 1993. Then he costarred for four seasons on “Dave’s World.”

Other series included “Buffalo Bill” and “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.”

His movie roles included a flamboyant window dresser in the 1987 comedy-romance “Mannequin.” He also appeared in “Damien: The Omen Part II.”

Taylor guested on TV series including “Criminal Minds,” ”Hannah Montana” and “The Drew Carey Show.”

Born in Boston, he began his career as a member of Chicago’s Goodman Theatre. After graduating from Florida A&M University, Taylor worked in Indianapolis as a radio reporter under the name Brue Thomas.  He launched his showbiz career when he joined a touring company of the musical “Hair.”

    A very favorite sitcom Designing Women & enjoyed Meshac in his role a very nice guy so sad that he’s gone condolences to his Mom 100 years old wow , his wife ,children & extended families & grandchildren these great people are leaving so young he’s up above now where he is well looked after .

    I Love that show Designing Women Anthony was really funny I still watch reruns ToD just as funny as if they were new Mary Jo, Julia, Charlene, Suzanne Sugar Baker,

    In addition to the creidts on Designing women, he also played in a move called “Mannequin” in the 80’s with Andrew McCarthy. Still one of my favorite movies of all time and Mesach stole the show!!!
    R.I.P. to a very diversally talented actor.
