Beyonce may be a global superstar but not everyone is a fan of her sexy image and explicit lyrics. Over the years, she’s been on the receiving end of much criticism from the Christian community, but the man who married Queen Bey and her hubby Jay Z says her stage persona is just entertainment.

Rudy Rasmus, co-pastor of St. John’s United Methodist Church in downtown Houston, recently sat down for an interview with theGrio and defended his long-time church member. “Beyoncé is a consummate entertainer, and an entertainer entertains,” he explained. “Is the entertainer’s entertainment an expression of that person’s life and reality? I don’t know. But I know when Arnold Schwarzenegger straps on a 30 caliber cannon and blows planes out of the sky, nobody asks the question, ‘Arnold why are you walking around for those 90 minutes in that suit with that 30 caliber cannon? What kind of person are you?’ I don’t think I’ve heard that question. But at the end of the day, Arnold Schwarzenegger is an entertainer.”

“I think a person has the right to earn a living in the way that they are gifted, and I think that she is tremendously gifted and I think she expresses that gift in some amazing ways,” he added. “I think the world would be void an extreme talent if we silenced her or censored her.”

As far as her marriage, Rasmus said the Carters have a very healthy relationship with a strong foundation of trust, respect and love. “They’re friends,” he shared. “Their relationship is healthy and life has been good.”

Beyonce’s best friend Kelly Rowland and parents, Tina and Matthew Knowles, are also members of the Texas congregation.

Rasmus, whose Miss-A-Meal campaign was featured on Bey’s latest tour, is currently on the road promoting his new inspirational book Love. Period.: When All Else Fails. Check out a clip for from his interview with theGrio, below.
