Shonda Rhimes is denouncing all rumors that she’s replacing Columbus Short’s character on “Scandal.” Reports that an actor named Eric West would be playing the new Harrison Wright hit the web today, but the show’s creator says that’s completely untrue.

“I’ve never heard of Eric West. Harrison is not being recast EVER,” Shonda tweeted. “How about reporters CHECK THEIR SOURCES before running with a story? Um, @Deadline? Handle yourself.”

Even West, who is still an up-and-coming star, said was surprised by the reports. “This is news to me,” he wrote.

According to TMZ, Deadline quickly updated the story after Shonda put them on blast! They called the news an “elaborate hoax” and added, “It is unclear yet whether Short would be replaced.” (Ummmmm, Shonda Rhimes didn’t sound like she was playing any games!)

As we reported earlier, Short lost the biggest gig of his career due to violent behavior, including a domestic violence charge filed by his estranged wife Tanee McCall-Short.

“At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for three years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today,” the 31-year-old said in his goodbye statement. “I would like to first thank Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast. Thank you Gladiators, who have supported me throughout my entire career and of course to ABC and Shondaland for allowing me to play such a pivotal role in the Scandal series.”

“I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry [Washington] and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time,” he added. “For this, I will forever be grateful.”
