First Lady Michelle Obama showed off her rapping chops during a White House speech today! While announcing the latest rule under her Let’s Move initiative, she took to the podium and shared a few verses about the benefits of healthy eating.
“If I’m going to help my brain come to fruition, I’m going to feed it quality nutrition,” she rhymed. “We love the cookies but they’re not sufficient. We need to eat veggies to make our bodies efficient. Roll my chicken in a wrap, don’t jam it in a nugget. Get hyped for healthy snacks, fresh food, we love it.”
Mrs. Obama used the song, written by school kids in Virginia, to promote a new rule that limits the marketing of sugary drinks and junk foods in American schools.
“The idea here is simple — our classrooms should be healthy places where kids aren’t bombarded with ads for junk food,” the First Lady said of her campaign to combat child obesity, which celebrated its fourth anniversary this week. “Because when parents are working hard to teach their kids healthy habits at home, their work shouldn’t be undone by unhealthy messages at school.”
“Because when parents are working hard to teach their kids healthy habits at home, their work shouldn’t be undone by unhealthy messages at school,” she added.
“I didn’t create this issue,” she said in conclusion to her critics. “This new approach to eating and activity is not just a fad, and it’s not just a movement. Nowhere is this more clear than in our schools.”
