Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice is the first African-American woman to lead a free-standing medical school after she was named the president of Morehouse School of Medicine, reports the Daily Atlanta World.

The Harvard-educated obstetrician and gynecologist is a native of Macon, Georgia. She received her undergraduate degree from Georgia Institute of Technology, her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her training at Emory University in obstetrics and gynecology. She completed her fellowship at Hutzel Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

Prior to accepting this position she was the Executive Vice President for Morehouse School of Medicine.

Congratulations to Mrs. Rice! She is definitely an inspiration to all women.
