Oh, the sheer nerve! The gall! The chutzpah! And Gabe Finger has plenty of all three.

Finger, all of 16 years old, is a summer intern for The Daily Caller, a conservative news and commentary web site.

Yes, the web site being conservative is pertinent to this story.

It should come as no surprise to BAW readers The Daily Caller is sympathetic to George Zimmerman, the homicidal creep who fatally shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

For the past year, America’s conservatives – save for at least one – have fallen madly, nauseatingly head-over-heels in love with Zimmerman. Their passion for the creep is akin to a bobbysoxer swooning over Frank Sinatra, except bobbysoxers had more dignity by comparison.

So it should also come as no surprise to BAW readers that Finger dredged up the cheek to ask White House press secretary Jay Carney this question:

“Because of the death threats being received by George Zimmerman and his parents, is the president going to take any action for their security or are they on their own?”

According to a story in the Washington Post, “Carney responded that he wasn’t aware of the threats and that Florida authorities would be responsible for handling them, but that Obama opposes ‘any violence of any kind’ in response to the verdict in the Trayvon Martin case.”

Here’s how the cheeky Finger responded:

“So they’re on their own?”

Only when BAW readers remind themselves that Finger is an intern for a conservative news and commentary web site will they appreciate how hypocritical Finger was, and what colossal nerve he had.

Didn’t the federal government, countless numbers of times, leave black Americans “on their own” and to the not-so-tender mercies of white racist lynch mobs and rioters?

And didn’t it do so with the gleeful blessing of – you guessed it – America’s conservative wing?

Whatever happened to the cherished conservative principle of federalism, which means the federal government is to have limited power and that cities, counties and states are supposed to take care of their own affairs?

Well, to the Gabe Fingers of the country, that applies when black folks are being lynched, mobbed, murdered and run out of their homes.

When the targets are white people, then conservatives want to move the goal posts; they want to change the rules and they have no problem abandoning their supposedly cherished principles.

Flagrant hypocrisy wasn’t Finger’s only problem. His question was racist, infuriatingly so.

Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon Martin’s parents, have also received death threats. But let me run Finger’s question to Carney by you again.

“Because of the death threats being received by GEORGE ZIMMERMAN AND HIS PARENTS, is the president going to take any action for their security or are they on their own?”

Everybody got that? “Because of death threats being received by George Zimmerman and his parents.” No mention, at all, of the death threats being made against Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton.

So what are Finger, his Daily Caller bosses and the rest of conservative America telling us? That Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton are very much “on their own”? That if some right-wing nut job takes them out, then it’s just their tough luck?

Or are they suggesting that if such a thing happens, then Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton will have gotten exactly what they deserve?

It is in times like these that conservatives need to remind themselves that, back during the days of the Civil Rights Movement, they came down every time on the wrong side of the struggle, and of history.

They need to use extra caution when it comes to supporting homicidal creeps like Zimmerman. Even if American conservatives buy the notion that Zimmerman’s shooting of Trayvon Martin had nothing to do with race, there are still reasons – very cogent ones – for not supporting Zimmerman.

At the top of that list of reasons would be this: Zimmerman is a “bleephole.”

Remember those recordings of Zimmerman’s call to the Sanford police the night he shot Trayvon Martin? In one of those, he said, “These [bleepholes] always get away.”

The only bleephole in that Sanford, Fla., gated community the night of Feb. 26, 2012 was Zimmerman. How else can you categorize a man that called the cops on a guy that neither committed a crime nor was a suspect in one?

Most of you would only call police if you saw someone actually committing a crime. Not Zimmerman. That’s a bleephole for you.

It has been established that on the night of Feb. 26, 2012, Trayvon Martin was on his way home after buying an Arizona iced tea and a bag of Skittles at a 7-Eleven.

Walking home from the store is what’s known as “constitutionally protected activity.”

Conservatives are supposed to be real zealots about people being allowed to engage, unimpeded, in constitutionally protected activity.

But it looks as if they’ve abandoned that principle too, at least when it comes to 17-year-old black boys.
