SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — The mother and brother of Trayvon Martin testified Friday that screams for help captured on audio of a 911 call came from the 17-year-old.

Sybrina Fulton and Jahvaris Fulton took the witness stand during the trial of George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer charged with murder in Martin’s shooting death. Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty and says he shot the teen in self-defense during a fight.

After the audio was played, prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda asked Sybrina Fulton, “Who do you recognize that to be?” She replied, “Trayvon Benjamin Martin.”

Identifying the screams on the 911 call could be critical to the case because it may help determine who was the aggressor during the scuffle between Zimmerman and Martin.

Under cross-examination, defense attorney Mark O’Mara suggested that Sybrina Fulton may have been influenced by others who listened to the 911 call, including relatives and her former husband.

O’Mara also asked Fulton hypothetically whether she would have to accept it was Zimmerman yelling for help if the screams did not come from her son. He also asked if she hoped Martin didn’t do anything that led to his death.

“I heard my son screaming,” Fulton said. “I would hope for this to never have happened and he would still be here.”

Jahvaris Fulton, Martin’s brother, also testified the screaming voice was that of Martin.

But O’Mara asked him why last year he had told a reporter that he wasn’t sure if the voice belonged to Martin. Jahvaris Fulton, in explaining his comment to the reporter, told O’Mara he was “shocked” when he heard it.

“I didn’t want to believe it was him,” Jahvaris Fulton said.

Before testifying, Sybrina Fulton posted on Twitter “I pray that God gives me the strength to properly represent my Angel Trayvon. He may not be perfect but he’s mine. I plead the blood of Jesus for healing.”

Why are folks calling Trayvon a thug and Zimmerman was the one with a gun acting like a hunter looking for a kill to place over his fireplace mantel. Don’t you think that Trayvon would consider Zimmerman creepy following him like that thinking that he might kidnap him or something. Even Zimmerman and his wife actions while he was in jail lying about how much money they had speaks volumes about his character. Zimmerman just walked up to the wrong somebody and got his azz whupped. His mom did well when he asked her the question if Trayvon had done something. A lot of those mom’s on the jury didn’t like that remark and it’s gonna come back to bite him in the butt. Had Zimmerman not followed him this never would have happened.

  2. The bottom line is that George was told to not follow him and had he not done that non of this would have happened. I believe it was Trayvohn (sp) screaming for his life and if by any chance it wasn’t and it was Curious George, he was beat up because Tray was scared for his life. Get with it George was wrong regardless and should do long time in jail. Death by an institution has nothing on God replaying this in George’s head over and over.

For your information he did not acted in self defense, he cold bloodily murder that teenager, and you should be ashamed of yourself trying to convince yourself that it’s not Trayvon when you know damn well it is. That motherfucker need the death penalty if you ask me.

@Jay the Jerk. “Everyone in the country with common sense who HEARD the tape” knows it was Trayvon Martin screaming. Why would a grown man carrying two flashlights and a gun be screaming for his life against a kid armed with a bottle of tea and skittles. In a police statement shortly after the Feb. 26, 2012, shooting, Zimmerman identified himself as 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 194 pounds. The former neighborhood watch volunteer, who has cited self-defense in the Sanford, Fla., shooting, was then 30 pounds heavier and four inches shorter than the teen. Dummy

Everyone in this country knows ( including those who dont want to admit it) that is the voice of Trayvon Martin screaming for his life

    • Everyone in the country…are you saying 314,000,000 knew Martin, and that the whole population of the US had heard his voice before? Are you psycho…I mean, are you psychic that you can read each and every one’s thinking in the U.S.? It seems to me that you already draw your conclusion way even before the trial. I really feel bad for his parents because no parent should go through this ordeal, by at the same time I don’t like seeing someone go to prison if he or she acted in self-defense. Trial is not over yet.

Trayvon Martin was fighting for his life. George Zimmerman’s actions cause Trayvon Martin’s death. George had no right to approach this kid. Trayvon Martin was doing nothing wrong. George is not an officer of the law. He should have stayed in his vehicle.
