When R&B artists Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank combined forces for TGT, a new R&B supergroup, it was a shot of musical TNT that R&B needed.  While each has had individual hits, the trio is counting on their combined starpower to bring old-school aR&B, currently suffering from a loss of prominence among musical genres, back to the forefront.  Now signed to Atlantic Records, Their single “Sex Never Felt Better” is out now and their self-titled debut CD is due in July.

On the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” performing live in the Red Velvet Cake Studio this morning, the group said that their tour would start in late June.

“We were actually talking about opening acts and things like that,” Tank, born Durrell, says. “We really want to make it very, very R&B. We were talking about grabbing some of the young up and coming R&B acts and really helping pave the way for that new generation of R&B.”

“it’s going to be a real night of R&B music,” said Tyrese. “All three of us go out and do our individual hit records, we all share the same band, then we come out and do our records as TGT.”

“We agreed on a rotating lineup,” says Tank. “But the closer we get to Fast 6, somebody just does not want to open or go second. I’m not saying who, I’m just saying I’m not in “Fast 6” and Ginuwine’s  not in “Fast 6.”

“There’s a lot more chocolate fans out here,” Tyrese says. “Truth be told, I’ve caught Tank tanning a few times.”

Good-natured ribbing – and joking Tyrese, Eddie Kane and David Ruffin comparisons aside, the group seems to be getting along, joking about each other’s amount of children (Ginuwine wins with 9, Tyrese has 1 and Tank has 4) and their individual personalities.

“The reason why y’all feeling this energy is because we’re actually friends,” says Tyrese.  (He and Ginuwine are best friends and have been for years.) “We’re ten plus years of being friends. We’re actually real fans of each other’s music, and what we bring to R&B collectively. Tank started singing backgrounds for Ginuwine on his first couple of tours, I introduced Ginuwine to his wife Sole and was the best man at his wedding; we’re all like real friends that have a real history. It’s not a gimmick. We’re just excited to finally have an official single. We’re just happy to be here.”
