Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton is making all the right moves on and off the court. The Heisman Trophy winner who heads into his third NFL season this fall, was the 2011 Rookie of the Year and set a new NFL record as the first quarterback to exceed 1,000 yards passing and 500 yards rushing in a season.

The former Auburn Tiger has also surprised his fans and fellow students by returning to his alma mater to finish his degree, cheering on his fellow students at sporting events as well. According to Yahoo.com, Newton has requested no special treatment but is taking his classes like any “normal” student despite an NFL contract worth upwards of $20 million. Newton has been spotted not just at Auburn’s main sporting events but the 6’5 athlete even played a little intramural basketball.

While most college students are just figuring out what to major in and hoping their financial investment in education will pay off, Newton has no such worries as “professional football player” is already on his resume.

Newton’s commitment to education doesn’t stop with just himself. He is also hoping to help other reach their educational goals via the Cam Newton Foundation. The foundation, which currently has chapters in both Charlotte and Atlanta, provides social, physical and educational opportunities for young people. The foundation is hosting a fundraiser in Atlanta, Ga. on March 15 at Stats, an Atlanta-area sports bar. Proceeds from the fundraiser, which is from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. will go to support camps and programs of the Cam Newton Foundation. Newton himself will be the host and a silent auction will be held. Tickets are $75 but attendance is limited.
