After facing an embarrassing loss during the election last week, former presidential candidate Mitt Romney is starting to lose supporters.

According to DisappearingRomney.com, Romney lost 817 Facebook likes per hour this weekend.

Originally, the former Massachusetts governor held 12,135,920 fans as of Election Day. At the time of this posting, the number sits at 12,022,685.

However, Romney gained fans in the Twitterverse since his loss last Wednesday with 1,601 new followers. But his activity has definitely taken a back seat with limited messages simply thanking campaign participants. The last one was posted on Sunday.

Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter were heavy platforms for this year’s presidential race serving as the central channel for political venting.

On election night, President Barack Obama broke a Twitter record having the most retweeted photo in the site’s history. The photo featured him and First Lady Michelle in an endearing hug.

This year’s election results also produced a record-breaking 327,452 tweets per minute.
