Romney needs your vote. So he wants you to forget that he’s the guy that called on the government to “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt”. He would also like you to forget that President Obama’s successful bailout of the auto industry helped facilitate Detroit auto maker’s return to solid financial footing and rescued more than 100 million jobs.

Mitt Romney may be having difficulty remembering what he says from one day to the next, but we in Michigan will never forget his predictions of the imminent extinction of the auto industry if American taxpayers were foolish enough to support their reckless policies in the form of a financial handout. According to the New York Times article written by Romney, a bailout would encourage automakers to remain on a collision course with financial ruin. “Without the bailout Detroit will need to drastically restructure itself. With it, the automakers will stay the course—the suicidal course of declining market shares, insurmountable labor and retiree burdens, technology atrophy, product inferiority and never-ending job losses.”

Well, Romney, we got the check and your predictions of doom and gloom couldn’t be further from the truth. GM and Chrysler paid back their loans years ahead of schedule, and the auto industry is enjoying record profits and job growth. No thanks to you. Now you want to take credit for our accomplishments by claiming that your calls for managed bankruptcy led the auto industry back to prosperity. Really?

Detroit auto makers have proven that they can thrive in the face of adversity, and since Romney needs our vote to become the next president of the United States he wants to claim he had a role in our success. Detroit survived because as Eminem so famously proclaimed. “This is Detroit, and this is what we do." The Auto industry is stronger than ever because people like Barack Obama were willing to take a chance and invest in our future. While people like Mitt Romney sat on the sidelines and predicted our demise. Romney may not remember but auto workers will never forget.
