PHILADELPHIA (AP)- Police are investigating the accidental discharge of a gun inside a flight attendant's handbag at Philadelphia International Airport.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports ( http://bit.ly/RaPodE) that Transportation Security Administration officers noticed the gun when the flight attendant put her handbag on the X-ray machine as she went through a routine security check around 6:30 a.m. Sunday. It went off and Philadelphia police were notified.

Republic Airlines spokeswoman Liz Landau identified the flight attendant as one of Republic's employees. Republic Airlines operates the US Airways Express flights out of Philadelphia.
