According to news reports, one time rapper Ms. Melodie has passed away. The cause of death and her age had not been revealed.

Ms. Melodie, whose real name was Ramona Parker,  was part of the famed Boogie Down Productions crew, or BDP, which was fronted by the legendary KRS-One. In fact, the two were married up until their divorce in 1992.

In 1988, she dropped a verse on the posse cut “Self Destruction” alongside notable rappers including the late Heavy D, MC Lyte and Kool Moe Dee.

Her first release was the 1988 12-inch single “Hype According to Ms. Melodie”, which, like most of her records, was produced by KRS-One. While they began recording her debut album, Ms. Melodie and the rest of BDP appeared in the Keenen Ivory Wayans film “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka.”
