Dr. Ro's Ten Secrets to Livin' Healthy

Date: Wednesday, January 05, 2005
By: Sybil Wilkes, Special To BlackAmericaWeb.com

I'll admit it.  This had nothing to do with a New Year's resolution.  It all happened so innocently.  I merely stepped out of the shower.  And there I was--me, Sybil, in my mother's body.  A few years ago, this resulted in a funny story when a painter, perched on my balcony, gave me the "Thumbs Up" when he spied my naked...behind.  This time there was no painter nor anyone else for that matter, to give me the much-need "Thumbs Up!" So, that's why I picked up "Dr. Ro's Ten Secrets to Livin' Healthy."

In this book, nutritionist, Dr. Rovenia M. Brock, does as the book promises, "Show You How to Look Great, Feel Better and Live Longer by Eating Right." From a Black woman's perspective,  Dr. Ro lays out the Ten Secrets—from Secret #1--"To Change Your LIfe, You Have to Change Your Mind,"  Secret#2--"Your Sista-Body is Something Special:  Get It Movin!"  Who knew Secret #4: "Soul Food is Good for You!"  With both parents who died too soon, I know that diseases of the heart and cancers can carry over from one generation to the next, but how many of us knew as Secret #7 reveals that "Heart Disease Begins at Age Six."

In "Dr. Ro's Ten Secrets to Livin' Healthy," Dr. Ro writes in a clear, easy-to-read fashion about her own history.  She then delves into the lives we should be living in order to break the unhealthy lifestyle cycle with exercise and a healthy eating pattern.  AHH, the FOOD!  Dr. Ro talks herbs and gives us menus with recipies.  "Ten Secrets to Livin' Healthy" is a fully comprehensive 'lifestyle' book which will only serve to kickstart us into a fab-u-lous 2005! How does the book end?  Only those of us who remain faithful to Dr. Ro's plan will discover and live the secrets.
