Arthur Ashe
1993: Professional Tennis great, Arthur Ashe, passed away on this day. Mr. Ashe was the first African American player to compete in the International sport of tennis at the highest level of the game and was one of the most prominent players of his time. He also founded the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of AIDS and the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health before his death. (Photo: AP)
