  • Beckman said that while she was recovering from her injuries in the hospital, her assailant managed to return to the dating site to meet another woman whom he later killed. Riley was eventually jailed for his crimes and took his own life while serving in prison.

In the $10 million suit against Match.com, Beckman believes that site administrator did not conduct a proper screening that could’ve prevented her assault as well as the death of another woman. She said that the site should include a disclaimer with the proposed statistic that one in five online dating experiences result in a murder.

Officials at Match.com said they find Beckman’s claims “absurd.” In an official statement, the company said that Riley did not have a previous criminal record and did not show signs of having disturbed behavior. Match.com is standing by their service as “an entire community of men and women looking to meet each other.”
