Students were previously able to receive condoms once a year after participating in a “free, voluntary, and confidential” STD program at the schools.
The test results prompted administrators to take serious action to distribute condoms more regularly instead of once a year.
Among the 130,000 students that have received testing within the last five years, five-percent have tested positive for HIV.
Parents were informed about the new condom dispenser in October and were able to opt their child out of the program.
