Did you see it? More than 6.5 million movie watchers had the “Steel Magnolias” experience on Sunday.
This was the best audience drawn telecast since “Life is Not a Fairy Tale: The Fantasia Barrino Story” in 2006. But this telecast served as the most watched movie in Lifetime’s history.
The new version of the movie and play, produced by Sony Pictures Television, was executive produced by Queen Latifah, and stars Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Adepero Oduye, Condola Rashad, Jill Scott and Alfre Woodard, says The Wrap.
“We couldn’t be happier with the great response ‘Steel Magnolias’ and ‘Abducted: The Carlina White Story’ received from viewers this weekend,” said Rob Sharenow, Lifetime’s executive vice president of programming.
Which one did you enjoy more? The white version or the black version of "Steel Magnolias."

Loved it! I cried on both of them!!! I think I enjoyed the first one better, but this version was indeed a treat!!! Loved them both!!! Great Job Queen and others!!!
Agree with pac4me, the 1st one was better. I mainly cried with Queen Latifa in the hospital scene but glad it was a success! OBAMA 2012
Actually loved the 1st one better, but this was good too – sometimes they overacted – I’m so happy for Queen that it was a success – just love her
I never watched the old one, but I watched the new one twice on Sunday…..
I enjoyed both! Cried while watching both. Related equally to both. No division here. If there is one thing that separate the two versions for me is the diversity of the extras that were included in the movie during the wedding.
