HELENA, Mont. (AP) — The chief federal judge for Montana plans to step down from the post and take a reduced caseload next year after forwarding a racist joke involving President Barack Obama.
U.S. Courts spokeswoman Karen Redmond said Thursday U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull of Billings will take senior status March 18.
That means he'll vacate his position as chief judge for the state and allow the president to appoint a replacement. Cebull will take a reduced caseload but will still draw a salary and can keep a staff.
Redmond says she can't comment on whether the move is related to the email that Cebull has acknowledged forwarding to a half-dozen people Feb. 20. The judge didn't return a call seeking comment.
Cebull asked the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in March to review his conduct after he was criticized for the email that included a joke about bestiality and Obama's mother.

All of his cases involving minorities need to be re-evaluated! CASE CLOSED!

I am pissed that his punishment is a lighter case load, and pay!!! What the hell???He should be fired and a black judge should replace him…..Every time you have to reprimand one of these idiots, you should put a black person in that position….That will help with the unemployment rate on my end alot….
How much you wanna bet he’s a Republican? And Black Republican’s are an amazing magical phenomena.
They should have done a blood test to see what type of drugs are in his system because the grand wizard of the court looks like he’s doped up! Wonder how many wrongful convictions he’s responsible for? How many innocent Black lives ruined because of this racist bastard!! Yet his punishment equates to a smack on the back of the hand.
This would have happened if this was during the Bush/Cheney era.
When we start looking at federal government and spending I say lets start with the exhorbenent retirement salaries and medical benefits of every ELECTED official and that costs. The government politicians that are getting huge retirement when they have long left political office. Let’s start with those millionaires and what they can afford to pay, a top down strategy in healthcare costs and the ratio of black to white and who is reaping the most benefits. If you take a 1000 millionaires versus 10 million middle class I would rather impact those few million people than the vast majority and I think this is the Obama plan, they are the privileged and can afford to give more. Ask Buffet.
