Let’s take a moment to go back in time to remember the ridiculous hoopla that occurred earlier this year when the first lady extended an invitation to the White House to rapper Common to read poetry.
Every minute of every day on every news channel was taken up by conversations of outrage and criticism.
So on Wednesday night, the issue was rekindled when the rapper/actor interviewed with John Stewart, who actually got into a fight with Fox News after defending the artist.
Although he was on the show to promote his new book, most of the conversation was about the spring-time non-scandal.
It was actually pretty funny, especially when Stewart joked about how “dangerous” it was for him to even be associating with him. He also laughed about the accused “cop-killer rapper” and how he looked so frightening in his sweater and tie.
Common discussed what he felt like when the controversy first erupted.
“At first it was humorous. I was like, ‘Really? They think I’m the person with negative energy and a negative rap artist?’ Then I realized they just didn’t know me because, if they had, they wouldn’t come out and say that I rap about killing cops. And anybody that knows me knows that I put out music about love, I put out music about social consciousness, community, God, having fun.”
